As highlighted in FreshWater Cleveland’s article “Nela Park: A century of lighting innovation and tradition”, Nela Park in East Cleveland stands as a beacon of industrial design and lighting innovation for over a century.
Founded in 1913 as the campus for the National Electric Lamp Company (later GE Lighting), Nela Park was the first industrial park in the United States. The site features Georgian Revival-style architecture, tree-lined avenues, underground utility tunnels, and even underground pedestrian walkways—reflecting meticulous urban and industrial planning.
