As reported by The Business Journal Daily in their article, “Board OKs Downtown East Liverpool Painting Project,” the city’s Design Review Board has approved the East Liverpool Beautification Society’s proposal to repaint historic lampposts downtown. The initiative, led by co-chairpersons Mary Beth Jones and Janie Smith, aims to restore 167 lampposts installed during the 1980s as part of the Fawcett Project.
Over the years, the lampposts have suffered rust and peeling paint, detracting from the envisioned charm of downtown East Liverpool. Along with the lampposts, the project will include repainting a kiosk at Devon’s Diamond and refurbishing a clock on Fifth Street, with plans to address a second clock on Sixth Street in the future.
Pro Vision Painting, a local company, will handle the restoration work, which will cost approximately $12,500, including paint. The beautification society has already secured funding through grants and donations and is awaiting 501(c)3 nonprofit status to further support its efforts.
The project also sparked discussions about cleaning the LED-lit lamp glass and repainting light poles downtown. These enhancements, coupled with earlier efforts like hydrant painting, are part of a broader strategy to revitalize the area.
