As reported by the California Democrat in the article “Street Light Poles Receive New Paint,” the City of California, Missouri is refreshing its heritage-style street lights for the first time since they were installed in 1992. This community-wide beautification effort—supported by the E.M. Burger Foundation and carried out with help from Tipton Correctional Center inmates—is the city’s most comprehensive streetlight refurbishment project to date.

According to Park Supervisor Robert Pace, many of the decorative street poles have never received a fresh coat of paint. While occasional touch-ups occurred over the years, this marks the first all-out campaign to refurbish every pole in the district. Favorable fall weather and scheduling delays with the city’s Electric Department made this the perfect window for the project.
