As reported by Otago Daily Times in their article “Streetlights Smarter,” the Waitaki District Council in Oamaru is upgrading its street lighting system with smart-control technology. The project aims to reduce energy consumption, improve functionality, and lower operational costs.

Benefits of Smart Streetlight Systems

The council is replacing traditional photocell receivers with 1,550 smart-system control units, allowing for:

• More reliable usage data, improving billing accuracy.
• Reduced power consumption, cutting electricity costs.
