As reported by The Coronado Times in the article titled “History Abounds in Coronado, Beginning with a Quest on the 9th & Alameda Street Lamps”, the city of Coronado is steeped in rich architectural and cultural history—visible even in its smallest details like lamp posts and sidewalks.
From the swift development initiated by Elisha Babcock, Jr. and Hampton Story in the late 1800s to the charming relics found on every block, Coronado embodies a living timeline. Among these, the antique lamp posts at 9th Street and Alameda Boulevard stand out. Despite limited archival information, the Coronado Historical Association believes they likely date back to the 1920s when Alameda—then known as K Avenue—marked the edge of the village near the Coronado Country Club.
