According to Wikipedia’s article titled “Street Light,” a street light, also known as a light pole, lamp post, or street lamp, serves as a raised source of light along roads and pathways. These lights have become commonplace in urban areas and are often found on railway platforms as well. With the widespread availability of urban electric power distribution in the 20th century, street lights became increasingly prevalent, enhancing the safety and visibility of city streets.
Many modern street lights are equipped with light-sensitive photocells, activating automatically in low ambient light conditions such as dusk, dawn, or inclement weather. In recent years, street light systems have been increasingly installed underground, eliminating the need for overhead wiring. These public security lighting installations play a crucial role in deterring crime.
