As highlighted in the article “California Heights Lamppost Restoration Project” on calheights.org, the restoration of vintage lampposts in California Heights has played a pivotal role in preserving the neighborhood’s historic charm. The lampposts, originally installed in the late 1920s to early 1930s, are significant symbols of the area.

The restoration project, initiated in 1998, aimed to replace the non-original lamppost tops, restoring them to their former glory. Thanks to private sponsorships and grants from organizations like the Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association (LBNMHA), multiple installations have been successfully completed over the years. These efforts have been instrumental in preserving the character-defining features of the Historic District.

With the final installation anticipated to be completed in late October to early November 2014, the project remains committed to reviving the beauty of California Heights’ streetscape. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stroll through Cal Heights, appreciate the illuminated ambiance provided by the restored lampposts, and explore the engraved plaques that narrate a piece of history.
