As detailed by Larchmont Buzz in their article “1920s Street Lamps, 21st Century LED Lights in Windsor Square,” crews from Los Angeles’ Bureau of Street Lighting have been working to modernize Windsor Square’s historic streetlights by replacing high-voltage bulbs with safer, low-voltage LED lighting.

According to Miguel Sangalang, Executive Director and General Manager of the Bureau, the City of Los Angeles has been systematically replacing old lights with LEDs as part of its long-running LED Conversion Program. With over 220,000 lights in the city’s system, nearly 90% have already transitioned to LEDs, saving Los Angeles around $10 million annually while dramatically reducing maintenance needs thanks to the LEDs’ longer lifespan and low failure rate.
